61 y.o. Member of Parliament of Ukraine of IV, V and VI convocations (since 2002). Deputy Head of the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defence (OU-PSD) parliamentary faction. Chairman of the People’s Movement of Ukraine (Narodny Rukh). Founder and Director of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation. Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (1998-2000; 2005-2007).

Born on January 1, 1949 in Zhytomyr region, Ukraine.

Education and Academic background:
1968 – Kyiv Polytechnic College of Communication Service
1975 – National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, specialization – International Relations and International Law

Languages spoken:
Ukrainian, Russian, English and French – fluent.

Work Experience and Political Life:
1967 – laboratory assistant at the Kyiv Polytechnic College of Communication Service
1968-1970 – Military service at the frontier troops
Since 1975 – work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, starting from the attaché position
March 1992 – September 1995 – Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
1995 – 1998 – Ambassador of Ukraine in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Netherlands
1997 –1998 – Permanent Representative of Ukraine to NATO
April 1998 – September 2000 – Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
2000 – foreign relations adviser to Viktor Yushchenko (who was the leader of opposition)
Since 3 May 2003 – Chairman of the People’s Movement of Ukraine (Narodny Rukh)
February 2005 – January 2007 – Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (served in the Cabinets of Yulia Tymoshenko, Yuriy Yekhanurov, and Viktor Yanukovych)
